Today, No Mission/Vision/Values Statement or The Wrong One Can Be a Business Killer – Here’s What to Do

Mission. Vision. Values.

These three words combined are the most underestimated and underutilized group of words in business.

If you consider these three words as a formula, you will be pleasantly surprised by what you will be able to make happen in your business and personal lives.

The most significant aspect of these three words is that together they are a powerful combination, yet each on their own merit is exceptionally unique:

Mission + Vision + Values

Countless numbers of businesses (particularly solopreneurs) and organizations get started by individuals that have worked for a business or association. While there they increased their competencies and confidences, but at some point, they ended up dissatisfied. Because of their dissatisfaction they chose to leave and start their own business or organization.

Vision & Mission Statement

Vision and mission statements provide direction, focus, and energy to accomplish shared goals. Values express the integrity that individuals and organizations believe in. They serve as decision-making tools in daily interactions that guide behavior. A mission statement provides focus!

The issue is that by not putting your values, vision, and mission statements down, it makes it a problem to operate because of the lack of clarity and no specific direction. The compass heading can’t be set!

With the lack of mission, vision and values, your team has a very difficult time uniting and getting behind you. This also applies to you when you're working all alone. Without a specific end result, it’s extremely difficult to accomplish your goals: you’re not easily able to make decisions on what to do next.

What is motivating you? What is it that inspires you?

When you know what you want and why you want it, it’s much easier for your team to support you and for you to know the next steps for yourself and your team.

Without having a clearly defined, a specific vision you are operating like a ship without a rudder, floating around aimlessly:

  • Your Mission creates FOCUS.
  • Your Vision provides DIRECTION.
  • Your Values define BEHAVIOUR.
