You will always be paid in direct proportion to what you do, how well you do it, and the difficulty of replacing you. We live in a meritocracy where we are always rewarded in direct proportion to the results we get for others.
The fastest way for you to get paid more and promoted faster is for you to achieve a greater quality and quantity of results for your company and for yourself.
Focus on accomplishments rather than activities.
Continually look for ways to get more and better results, faster than before. Regularly assess each of your activities and make sure that what you are doing is contributing the greatest possible quantity and quality of results at any given time.
Keep asking yourself, “What outcomes are expected of me?” Always look for ways to do more than you are paid for. Go the extra mile. There are never any traffic jams on the extra mile.
How you can apply this law immediately:
- Continually ask yourself, “Why am I on the payroll?” What specific results have you been hired to accomplish? What results, if you failed to get them, would jeopardize your job and your career?
- Identify the most important things you do each day. How could you get better in each area? What could you do to make yourself indispensable?
- Go the extra mile. In what ways could you do more than you are paid for? When you consistently do more than you are paid for, you will eventually be paid far more than you are receiving today.
